Privacy Policy — Hawk View

Last updated: 2026-11-01

Hawk View is a browser extension that manages your open tabs and saved links. Its guiding principle is simple: your data stays on your device.

What we store

Hawk View stores the following locally, in your browser (IndexedDB / extension storage):

Each installation starts with its own empty library. There are no accounts and no server: nothing is uploaded, synchronized or shared.

What we read from the web (and why)

To display a saved link correctly, Hawk View makes read-only GET requests:

  1. To the exact URL you save — to read its page title (when you save without one) and to find its favicon in the page's HTML or at /favicon.ico.
  2. The browser's built-in favicon API — for the favicons of your open tabs (badge/counter).
  3. Google's public favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons) — only as a fallback when a site does not provide its own favicon.

These requests may include your normal browser session for that site, so titles of pages behind your own logins resolve correctly. They are GET requests only: the extension does not submit forms, does not modify pages (it has no content scripts), and does not read pages you have not saved or counted.

What we do NOT do

Backups under your control

Options → Data → Export downloads a copy of your library as a file; Import restores it. These files are created on your device and never uploaded by the extension.

Children's privacy

Hawk View does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published together with the extension listing on the Chrome Web Store.
